Turkey’s energy sector has been booming in recent years, with new records being set for oil and natural gas production in the month of October. The Energy and Natural Resources Ministry has confirmed that both crude oil and natural gas production reached new highs, showcasing the country’s growing capabilities in the field.
In a statement released by the ministry, it was reported that Turkey’s natural gas production reached 234.4 million cubic meters (mcm) in October, while domestic crude oil production hit a new monthly high of 3.36 million barrels. These figures represent a clear indication that Turkey’s energy sector is thriving and expanding at a rapid pace.
The average daily production of natural gas and oil in October was recorded at 7.56 million cubic meters and 108,443 barrels, respectively. These numbers highlight the consistent growth and potential of Turkey’s energy industry, signaling a bright future for the country’s energy independence.
The ministry’s infographic revealed that the largest oil production of the day occurred on October 29, with an impressive output of 111,280 barrels. Additionally, natural gas production peaked on October 23 at 7.9 mcm, showcasing the country’s ability to meet the growing demands for energy.
One of the key factors contributing to Turkey’s increased oil and gas production is the discovery of significant gas fields on the Black Sea coast and newly found deposits in the southeast Gabar region. These exploration activities have played a crucial role in boosting the nation’s energy output and strengthening its position in the global market.
The Sakarya Gas Field accounted for 84% of all gas production in October, while oil output from the Gabar region made up 46.6% of the nation’s total oil production. Natural gas production at the Sakarya Gas Field reached 6.66 mcm on October 23, while production in Gabar peaked on October 29 at 52,573 barrels, further highlighting the success of Turkey’s energy exploration activities.
Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar emphasized the government’s commitment to increasing oil and gas production in the coming years. He stated, “We will increase our production in both oil and natural gas with new fields, new explorations, and new drilling,” underscoring Turkey’s dedication to enhancing its energy independence and meeting the nation’s growing demands.
Bayraktar also highlighted the importance of exploring new reserves and making new discoveries on different continents, citing the example of the Oruç Reis ship’s seismic activities in Somalia. The research vessel, which is conducting seismic investigations for natural gas and oil in Somalia, is expected to play a key role in Turkey’s energy development strategy.
During a welcoming ceremony at the Port of Mogadishu, Bayraktar announced the signing of a new deal on onshore hydrocarbon exploration in Somalia between the Somali Petroleum Authority and the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO). This collaboration marks a significant step towards enhancing Turkey’s global energy presence and solidifying its position as a key player in the industry.
